BIO: Alecia ‘Lila Iké’ Grey
Meet Alecia ‘Lila Iké’ Grey: the straight-shooting, free-spirited, yet easy-going singer who belts soulful tunes with a velvety smooth voice. Born and raised in the cool hills of Manchester, Lila attended the Manchester High School where her love for music truly started to form. Affectionately labeled the ‘class clown’, Lila was usually in the position where she would be asked to create jingles on spot for class presentations or just be caught in class ‘free styling’ with her friends. She’s cites influencers from a wide range of genres- from pop to lover’s rock to rhythm and blues. She even goes as far as to describe herself as an ‘old soul’- often channeling the soulful sounds of influencers like Garnet Silk, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and more. Even in high school Lila knew what she wanted to do and it came naturally to her. She started out with winning best talent in her high school pageant and eventually writing her class’graduation song. She then went on to perform at a ‘Battle of the Mic’ show when she attended the Northern Caribbean University. Her first performance under the ‘Lila Iké’ moniker was at a Jazz and Blues concert on the Rex Nettleford Hall at the University of West Indies Mona. She began to develop her following and spent time perfecting her craft by getting in as many performing hours - signing up for open mics where she could. Lila also began building her fan base when she eventually collaborated with Jah 9, Kabaka Pyramid and Protojé of what is called the Reggae Revival all persons she now considers her advisors. Her music is a reflection of all the things she genuinely believes in and holds dear- spirituality, divinity and energy. However, she does tend to venture into other topics as she describes her style of creating as fluid and free-flowing as she has never actually sat and written songs. With her love for ‘freestyling’ from her days in high school, Lila relies on her ‘vibe’ and ‘energy’ to provoke creative thought. In fact, she applies this same principle to her relationship with the people around her as she describes herself as a person who only agrees to work with persons with whom she has an organic ‘connection’ with and those who have a clear vision and her best interest at heart. Though Lila Iké is still cementing her feet into the realm of music, she has been featured on a few tracks: Flight Plans with Protojé, Believe with Royal Blu, Got it For You and Raggamuffin both with Koro Fyah. She has also made appearances on soon to be released mixtapes: Addis Pablo and Yaadcore. She was also featured on the BBC 1Xtra Cypher- produced by Toddla T. She has also been working on her single ‘Biggest Fan’ which has been creating quite a buzz in the underground circuit and which also has a very close and special meaning to her and her musical journey. ‘Biggest Fan’ tells the story of her mother who despite not being completely into the idea of her taking music seriously, still ended up being her ‘biggest fan’ when she caught a glimpse into what Lila was capable of. In fact, her mother has never seen her perform as Lila Iké. She plans to change that soon. Grey dreams of becoming as big as Erykah Badu and making her family, friends and supporters proud. She has also committed to dedicating time into penning her words and may soon become another talented act from the In. Digg. Nation Collective.-----
